The Marble challenge
We are beginning the year with talking about the scientific process skills that we
use every day in science. To demonstrate these skills, students were given the
challenge of getting a marble from one cafetorium wall to the opposite wall
without touching the marble nor allowing the marble to touch the floor. If the
marble fell on the floor, students had to begin again. They were allowed to
choose any tool from my bin, and everyone had to participate. I did not tell
them how they were going to accomplish the task. They had to work together as a
team to figure it out. They learned from their mistakes, made modifications, and succeeded! What a way to learn about each student!
