**Note to parents: Students who have a device like a phone with apps, iPad, Nook, Kindle, etc., are encouraged to have a dictionary/thesaurus app on it to use in writing class. They are welcome to bring their devices to my class as long as they use them for its intended purposes. I only have one iPad, four classroom computers, and dictionaries in book form, so the devices become helpful to eliminate so many students needing access to the computer.
Expanded Expression Tool (EET)
Students will be working on expanding their thoughts and ultimately, their writing by being more descriptive. To assist them with this, I will review a tool that was presented them last year called the Expanded Expression Tool or EET. Our district's speech and hearing therapist, Michelle Wright, uses this successfully in her teaching and presented it to the rest of the staff a couple of years ago. This is a tool that can be used in ANY subject area to help students expand their thinking and writing. If your child is having difficulty describing, comparing/contrasting, summarizing, etc., I highly recommend you remind them of this tool. As students become more exposed to this tool, they will have it memorized.
